Frequently Asked Questions
The questions we get most often — and why FamiliaLista is the best companion to your legal plan, not a replacement.
What it is — and what it isn't
Does this replace my will?
No. FamiliaLista is a digital Letter of Instruction — a supplement your executor and family consult to know where everything is. Your will remains your attorney's work.
Is this only for after I pass away?
No. FamiliaLista activates when you stop confirming you're okay on your check-ins — whatever the reason. An accident, a hospital stay, any day you can't respond: your family gets your manual so they can keep the home and business running while you recover. For the legal side of incapacity there's a power of attorney; FamiliaLista doesn't replace it — it's the practical map that goes alongside it.
Does it replace my lawyer, accountant, or insurance advisor?
No. If you have a business, complex accounts, or insurance, keep working with your professionals. FamiliaLista organizes where everything lives and who to call — it doesn't administer or advise.
Do I still need life insurance?
Yes. Life insurance is still your family's best friend. FamiliaLista complements it — your family will know where the policy lives, who to call, and what to ask.
How it works with your legal plan
How does FamiliaLista work with my will?
Ask your attorney to reference FamiliaLista in your will as your digital Letter of Instruction. This gives your executor an up-to-date map of your information — something a will, by its static nature, can't do.
Suggested language for your attorney
I maintain a digital Letter of Instruction through FamiliaLista (familialista.com), updated regularly. My Executor and family are directed to consult this document for current information regarding accounts, contacts, instructions, and wishes. This document supplements — but does not replace or alter — the terms of this Will.
Is this a "digital asset"?
Yes. Under RUFADAA (adopted in Texas and most states), your FamiliaLista account is a recognized digital asset. When your attorney drafts your will, they can include language authorizing your executor to access this kind of asset.
How long does a will take to settle? Does FamiliaLista speed it up?
In Texas, a will enters a legal process (probate) that usually takes 6 to 12 months — longer if anyone contests it. FamiliaLista does not speed up or replace that process. What it does is cover the gap the will leaves in the meantime: from day one, your family knows where the documents are, who to call, and what you wanted — without waiting on the court.
We are not attorneys, and this is not legal advice. Your attorney can adjust the suggested language to your state and your situation.
How it works
When is my manual delivered?
Only after you miss several check-ins in a row, according to the cadence you set. The system reminds you multiple times — patiently — via WhatsApp and email before it acts.
Can anyone see my information before it's delivered?
Your information is encrypted and is only delivered to the people you choose, when your check-in activates. We never sell or share it. Read more on Security →
What if I miss a check-in by accident?
You have wide windows and multiple reminders. The system is paranoid by design — a late check-in should never trigger a false delivery.
What happens if I don't answer a check-in?
The system tries to reach you several times before doing anything. If you set 5 days:
- The check-in arrives via your preferred channel (WhatsApp or email).
- If you don't answer, we follow up by WhatsApp + email.
- We follow up again on all channels.
- We email your emergency contact (a person separate from your family — a friend, a sibling) to check on you.
- Final urgent warning on all channels.
- Your family receives your Manual and the Cuarto Familiar opens.
If you set 10 days the warnings space out — but the day family receives everything is always the number you chose. Your emergency contact is the last safety net before anything reaches the family.
What is the Cuarto Familiar?
It's the next layer of FamiliaLista — the room you prepare today, for the day your family needs it. It has two modes:
- Preparing mode (while you're here): you leave the important tasks ready, the key contacts, and a note for your family.
- Active mode (when they need it): your family walks into that same prepared room — they don't start from zero — and split up what's next, together, in one place, without losing messages in WhatsApp threads.

How does my family enter the Cuarto Familiar?
When your check-in activates, each person receives an email with a unique link — one click plus one code by email, no passwords to remember. Inside they see the tasks you left in your Manual, can upload shared documents (death certificate, funeral papers), see who did what with an activity log, and get notified when another member uploads or changes something. All bilingual, for 12 months.
How long is the Cuarto Familiar available afterwards?
The Cuarto stays active for 12 months — enough time for your family to resolve insurance, probate, taxes, and paperwork. Then there are 30 more days of archive (read-only, with download). We email at 30 days out, at 7 days out, and at the moment of archive.
What happens to the Cuarto's files when it archives?
When it goes to archive, no more uploads or edits — only downloads. After 30 days, the files are permanently deleted. But your original Manual can always be re-sent — your family can reach us at contact@familialista.com to request it.
Best uses
The situations where FamiliaLista makes the biggest difference:
- Young parents — so your partner isn't left in the dark
- Small business owners — vendors, contracts, keys to the shop, operating accounts
- Adult caregivers for aging parents — so your siblings know where everything lives
- Binational families (US/MX) — paperwork that lives in two countries, contacts on both sides
- Single adults — so your closest friend or sibling knows what to do if something happens
Your best copy is the one that DOESN'T depend on us
Even though FamiliaLista is built to never fail, we recommend a physical backup:
- 1.Download your Emergency Folder PDF every 6 months.
- 2.Print a copy and store it somewhere safe — a fire safe, a locked drawer, or your important-papers folder.
- 3.If you handle sensitive information, consider an encrypted USB stored separately.
- 4.Tell ONE trusted person where these physical copies live.
We don't want you trapped on our platform — we want you prepared.
